General information

The symposium will focus on every aspects of current developments in basic and applied Thysanopterology. New scientific advances in this field of entomology will be discussed in detail during oral and poster sessions. The participation of internationally renowned scientists will ensure a high quality meeting. Thysanopterologist from all over the world are most welcome.

Location

Strunjan is located in the SW part of Slovenia (near the Adriatic sea). It is distant 120 km from Slovenian capital Ljubljana and 140 km from the airport Ljubljana (Brnik near Kranj). Strunjan is accessible by car on highway, by railway (Ljubljana railway station) or by bus (Ljubljana bus station). Of course, Strunjan is also accessible from Trieste (for those, who will landed at airport Trieste). The final bus station is in Portorož (3 km distant from Strunjan), and the final railway station is in Koper (12 km distant from Strunjan). For the rest of the travel taxi is available, but also organizing committee will help the participants in this regard. In the second announcement we will send you the further information regarding the time schedule for the accessibility of Strunjan by railway or bus.

Organiser

The meeting is being organised the Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Agronomy, Chair of Entomology and Phytopathology. The Biotechnical Faculty is part of the University of Ljubljana, the biggest Slovenian University.

Arrival and departure

We expect the arrival of participants by the September 17 (Monday), and the planned date of departure is September 21 (Friday).

Official language

The working language of the 2SPT will be English.

Registration fee

The registration fee is 150 EUR, which includes the cost of reception and social program. It should be paid to the organizer (S. Trdan) at the meeting, preferably with cash.

Accomodation

Accomodation costs should be paid directly to the hotel (on arrival or departure). They can be paid also by credit cards (Mastercard, VISA, American Express and others).

The participants are kindly requested to fill-in and return the registration and accomodation form (the end of this announcement) to Stanislav Trdan (e-mail or fax) by June 15. According to your wishes the reservation of the accommodation will be made by the organizer.

Lectures

The lectures will be held in the Hall at the Svoboda Hotel. According to the preliminary plan the lectures and the round-table discussion will be held on September 18 and 20. Overhead projector, slide projector and video projector will be available in the Hall.

Abstracts

By August 10 all active participants (oral or poster presentations) should send a short abstract to the organizer, preferably by e-mail. Abstract should not exceed half a page.

Proceedings of the abstracts will be available for all participants of the symposium.

Scientific program

It will be send to all participant of the symposium as a part of the second announcement by August 24.

Publication

The lectures will be published in English in the scientific journal Acta Phytopathologica et Entomologica Hungarica. Papers submitted to the journal should be in general regarded as scientific articles. More instructions to the authors will be available in the second announcement.

Social program

On September 19 all-day excursion to »Primorska region« (broader surroundings of the Adriatic sea) is planned. It will be the period when summer verges into autumn and the pleasantly warm sea with its fascinating surroundings will also offer many opportunities for relaxation after the scientific programme. The plan of the excusion will be present in the second announcement

The climate in Strunjan is mild Mediterranean. The average air temperature at the time of the Symposium is about 19°C and due to 3 or 4 rainy days a water proof clothing is recommended.
